Pickpocketing

There has been a rising increase in the number of pickpockets in the community, this bring a bad impression to the community as people would not want to be staying here if they know about this. So here are some tips to how you can prevent them from happening:

1. Pickpockets tends to distract people away from their point of view to remove object from your pockets, watch out for their hands and their movements when they approach you.

2. They may also use children to pickpocket, they will sneak up behind to take your items.

Here is a video to show you how pickpockets work:

Stray Animals

Some residents have noticed a sudden increase in the number of stray cats and dogs in the area. The streets are littered with cat food as people are feeding these cats. In addition, there are also reported cases of joggers being bitten by stray dogs.

Something has to be done to prevent things like this from happening because it might affect us or we might catch a virus that makes us ill from the stray animals that may be non-sterile.

Having more stray animals on the streets will lead to:

1. Rabies - it is a fatal disease which can transmit into humans from bites of the animals.

2. They are also constantly in search for food, and people who pity them will start feeding them, which leads to the increase in litter or they will go around scavenging for food which is unhygiene.

3. They have a lot of parasites on their body which might infect people making them carriers of a virus.

These animals need your HELP!

If you've spotted any of these animals, you can call for assistance from:

Littering

I've realised that in most parts of Valley Street many of the streets and public areas have had an increase in littering problems, many places are filled with rubbish and no one is doing anything about it, as a resident of Valley Street, I feel that it is everyone's responsibility to stop and start throwing rubbish into designated bins around the community. It is an ugly sight to see our town to be like a waste dump with litter everywhere.

Streets filled with litter which attracted stray animals.

Littering can lead to HUGE consequences:

1.  Littering attracts bacteria and vermins that are harmful to one's health.

2.  They are also harmful to wildlife as well, animals like birds might mistake litter as food and choke on them or they might swallow small bits of plastic that fills up the stomach and they starve to death due to the litter leaving them with a full stomach.

3.  It is just unsightly to see the area fill with litter, it just destroys the view of the place and it reflects badly to the people who are staying there.

Stop Littering... and start RECYCLING

Reduction in litter helps make the place a nicer and better place for everyone. It helps in reducing the greenhouse gases that are produced everytime the litters are cleared. Recycling can help in conserving the resources that we have and they can be made into materials that are useful for us.

The 3 'R's in Recycle are:
1. Reduce
2.Reuse
3.Recycle

So.... START RECYCLING!

Petty Crimes

There has been a rising increase in numerous cases of petty crimes in our neighbourhood. And it has come to my attention that many of these cases are left unreported. This is highly unacceptable because many of these criminals are getting away scot free and many of the residents are worrying about their safety.

VANDALISM

Here are some pictures of vandalism:

How can we stop Vandalism:

1. Contact the police department if you witness anyone vandalising any public property.

2. Get to know your neighbours better, so that you know the people around the community and you can easily spot someone who does not belong.

3. Form night watch groups to patrol and engage anyone who you see vandalising.
